Materials & Finishes

Material defines presence.

At FORMED, each piece begins with considered material selection. The weight, tone and surface character of metal play a defining role in how an object sits within a space. Our finishes are developed through controlled fabrication and refined by hand to ensure clarity, consistency and architectural depth.

We work primarily in brass, bronze and stainless steel — materials chosen for their structural integrity and enduring visual quality. Aged and custom surface treatments are available for projects requiring greater depth and tonal variation.

Brushed Brass

Warm and luminous, brushed brass introduces depth without excess. The linear grain softens reflection while retaining a refined metallic clarity. Its golden undertone adds warmth to both contemporary and traditional interiors.

Over time, brass will naturally evolve, developing subtle tonal variation that enhances its architectural character. For projects requiring stability, sealed finishes are available upon request.

Brushed Bronze

Brushed bronze offers a more restrained warmth, with deeper brown undertones and a muted metallic presence. It carries weight visually, grounding a space while remaining refined.

The brushed texture reduces glare and enhances surface depth, making it particularly suited to interiors where material subtlety is preferred over shine.

Brushed Stainless Steel

Architectural and precise, brushed stainless steel delivers a cooler, more contemporary tone. Its controlled grain produces a clean, consistent surface that integrates seamlessly with stone, timber and joinery.

Stainless steel offers exceptional durability and is well suited to projects requiring a minimal, restrained material expression.

Aged Brass

Aged brass introduces depth and tonal complexity through controlled patination. Subtle darkening across the surface enhances shadow and edge definition, creating a finish that feels settled and architectural.

Each piece develops slight variation, ensuring no two surfaces are identical. Aged brass is ideal for interiors seeking warmth with a more grounded, time-softened character.

Aged Bronze

Richer and more atmospheric, aged bronze carries deeper tonal shifts and softened highlights. The patination process enhances surface depth while maintaining structural clarity.

The result is a finish that feels substantial and considered — particularly suited to sculptural forms and statement elements within refined interiors.

Custom & Specialist Finishes

Where projects demand a unique material expression, Formed offers bespoke surface treatments and specialist finishes developed in consultation.

Options may include directional brushing, controlled patination, sealed or matte refinements, and project-specific surface development.

Each custom finish is developed to align with the architectural intent of the space.

Material Character

Each finish is refined by hand and may exhibit subtle variation in tone and surface texture. These nuances are considered part of the material’s natural expression.

Brass and bronze are living metals and will evolve over time, developing depth and character unique to each piece.
